ILLUSIONS, SCENE 10, TAKE 2
The painting depicts 2 people, a man and a women, in profile. They are taking off the bandages-scarfs of their eyes and look at each other, with their hands touching. The man is in the blue t-shirt, woman in red. Bandages are violet, background is plain pink coral.
The painting is a part of Illusions series of Biserka Petrovic. These paintings are developed like a storyboard, and in given order they form a narration, a story about human perception, according to the artist’s idea of perception as something defined by our previous experiences. The paintings show 4 characters and artist’s vision of their self-understanding after 2 decades; they talk about love and growing up, especially, and any kind of illusion. Biserka imagined the two men as the same one as young and as older, and the same for the two women. The observer is of course free to interpret it differently, especially thanks to the fact that the older and the younger characters are not the same persons. Paintings are developed first as a series of photographs made by the artist, and the figures in the paintings are the actors of Serbian Pulse Theatre, which the artist hired to act in the scenes.
