The painting depics fragmented pieces of tyres from motor vehicles and trucks. Broad white lines cross over the objects. In the background are orange markers painted reminiscent of traffic signals. Floating in the foreground are blue organic lines.
The objects are painted in great detail in order to capture the layered materials with which the tyres are constructed. it exposes their innards showing the raw material with which they are fabricated. Materials that are mined, often in Africa and transported across the World to manufacture the tyres. It is an object globally regognized that is central to mobility and the ideology of progress. Simultanously these objects are associated with the destruction and fragmentation of the landscape and a key contributer to global warming. The colours used in the painting - Cadmium orange an Cobalt blue are made from mined metalsand are very toxic in their raw form. The paintng is both a still life and a landscape combining two painterly traditions.
The still life here references an inner emotional world while the landscape references a painterly tradition associated with the conquering eye of ownership and possession.
